Appearance
Round-faced, with a wide mouth, full lips, and large (slightly uneven) teeth. Her hair changes daily, but without frizzing, elaborate do-ups, or straightening it's dark brown and a bit past her shoulders. However, the afore-mentioned changes are more prevalent. She likes her appearance as wild and outlandish as possible, and her hair is her favorite way to achieve that. If she can't get what she wants with her own hair, she wears wigs. Her eyes are almond-shaped and almost black, and she usually wears bright eyeshadows, eyeliners, or fake eyelashes to color them up (she laments that they're too sensitive for contacts). Her build isn't particularly notable; she has a few curves, but nothing really eye-catching, and she's quite short. Her lips are constantly moving, either chewing on a pencil or pursed while she thinks and hums to herself. They're the only part of her face that she doesn't doll up to a bright and gaudy degree, and she doesn't really need to. Her clothes are mostly hand-made, although she has a few outfits from her favorite stores back home. They're extremely varied - polka-dots, floral patterns, fur-lined, pretty much anything and everything is in her closet somewhere. She throws them all together to make the brightest outfit possible. In school, she keeps to uniform, but accessorizes it as much as she can without being scolded. Big jewelry, pin-on patches, charms, flowers in her hair, as much of the whole shebang as she can get away with. She has an extremely infectious smile.

Background
Kaori was adopted when she was a few months old by two men in Okinawa. She was raised there by her adoptive fathers, one of whom home-schooled her until she was twelve, when they decided to move to America. San Francisco was her new home, and she took to it quickly. Public school was hard for her at first, as her English was limited to what her dads knew (which wasn't much and heavily accented to boot). She was shy, and she made few friends, preferring to stick to herself. She never felt lonely despite this (and instead immersed herself in fantasy and romance novels, old TV dramas, and the birth of her notably horrible poetry).
In middle school she started an interest in designing and making her own clothes, and (with practice and a few night sewing courses) she quickly made her own wardrobe. Her outlandish style came to her naturally, and she was hesitant at first to wear it to school. Gradually, she introduced it a hairstyle at a time, or a button, or a plastic flower in her hair. When she started at Second Heaven, this process was repeated. On her first day of class, she dressed strictly in uniform, no makeup, hair down. With each day she added something new, until she was accessorized as she wanted to be, and had no more reservations about wearing everything she wanted in her "off time".
Personality
Despite what her wild style would suggest, Kaori's a shy girl. Although she's friendly, she usually doesn't approach strangers, but if someone approaches her first, she's overjoyed to talk. Her shyness doesn't necessarily mean that she's *quiet*. If she's not talking, and if it's not interrupting someone else, she's humming. She's very bouncy; if she's sitting, her foot is bobbing, her head is going side-to-side, and she's biting on her pencil. Everything excites her. She skips in the hallways, dances when she has nothing to do. She loves making jokes, although they're usually a bit odd (lightly put) or much dirtier than her shy nature would suggest her capable of. The English language slips her up sometimes, and to hide it she took on the habit of elongating whatever it was she was saying at the time ("And then IIIIIIIIIIIIII finished it!"). The habit's stuck with her even though her English has gotten better.
Love and fantasy is something that's really important to her. She reads horrible romance novels, writes her own, and wants very desperately to fall in love. She's an avid believer of UFOs and unicorns. Give her a giant stuffed animal and she's ecstatic. She doodles on *everything*. When she's not doing schoolwork, she's usually sewing or cheerfully writing (horrible) poetry.
She's a bit forgetful and tends to space out, but her grades are good (despite her seeming quite dumb).
